Swedish Saint Lucia

This video shows how St Lucia Day is celebrated in Sweden. The clips show what procedures are carried out during the day and the background music is the traditional St Lucia song.

St Lucia Day is celebrated widely with candlelight and traditional candle-lit processions. Lucia was a Christian and died for her faith. The eldest girl in the family puts on a white robe in the morning and wears a crown of candles. She serves her parents Lucia buns and coffee or mulled wine. In church, women sing the traditional St Lucia song which describes how she overcame the darkness and found light.

Practice Interview

This is the practice video I did interviewing Beff. We were sent out to use the video camera and tripod so we could get used to them and how they work. Next week we will be using imovie to edit the videos. The video isn't perfect however I am pleased with it as my first attempt. If i were to do it again I would try to interact with my interviewee slightly better as we were both awkward with each other and didn't really know what to say which made the whole thing uncomfortable.

Raks Dance documentary

This is part one of a series of three short documentary clips about Raks (a type of dance). At the beginning there is a woman dancing to music talking about the moves she is doing, it then goes on to show a woman sat in a chair talking about the dance, text is used here to explain who she is and where she's from. The video then goes on to show a clip of where the dance originated from which looks like a tribe somewhere, there is a voice-over here however it's not in English so I'm not entirely sure what he is saying. The video then goes on to (what I think) is the voice-over man explaining the history of the dance. There is a series of women talking however again, none of this is in English. I would like to incorporate certain parts of this video in my own, for example the way text is used to explain who is speaking - why, where they're from, what they do etc. I could use this in my video to tell the audience my subject's name, where they were born, how old they are and just general facts and information about my subject. I will also lay my video out like this one as I like the way there are clips of people talking and then it switches to short clips of other things, like the woman dancing and the history of the dance which both have the male voice-over. In my video I would like to do a similar thing - for example, I could have my subject talking in a chair in a room like in this video and then I could switch to a reconstruction of what they are talking about or an old video of theirs if I manage to receive some and then switch back to them in the room. I could also voice-over during the reconstruction/old videos to explain to the viewer what they are seeing and what's going on.

Ganpati Festival documentary

This video is about Ganpati Festival in India. The documentary consists of a short clips all placed together with the voice-over of a woman talking throughout. There is background music in some parts that is faded when the voice-over is talking. At the beginning she talks about the history of the festival, as the video continues she explains how the festival starts and the things that are carried out prior to the start of the festival. She goes on to talk about the 'idols' and food that are prepared and how they are made, whilst this is going on the clips show the preparations and the workers getting everything ready for the Ganpati Festival. The way that this video is laid out has been thought about as it goes in stages - from the preparations to the actual festival and then the video finishes with the ending of the festival. This is something I would do in my video as I will be getting my interviewee to talk to me about a main point the history of their life and therefore when I was documenting it I could get them to speak about their life before this main event, then the main event and then how their life was after and if/how it changed. I could also try to recreate this event using film and getting my interviewee's voice to play over these clips as they discuss what was going on at this point in there life. I probably won't use any music during my video as the majority of it will be them speaking and I won't have any clips from their past that I could play with music overlapping unless I manage to discover some of their old films from that point in their lives. However if I do manage to find some then music is something I will consider.
